Spend ‘An Evening with Eddie Huang’ at the Aratani Theatre

One of the key ingredients missing in modern day television, even in ‘16, is diversity, which explains why shows like ABC’s “Black-ish” and “Fresh Off the Boat” were celebrated with such fervor when they debuted. The network would not have the family comedy centered around the Huang family in Orlando, FL, set in the ‘90s if it wasn’t for Eddie Huang. His book by the same name was a hit with readers and went on to inspire the creation of the series. While Huang has since exited his voiceover duties on the series after its premiere in ’15, there seem to be no hard feelings since his on-screen mother Constance Wu will be interviewing him at this month’s “An Evening with Eddie Huang” at the Aratani Theatre.

A child of Chinese immigrants who settled in the United States and a world-class chef and food personality, Huang rose up in the culinary ranks and has since gone on to be one of the most recognizable faces and names in cooking. He’ll be joining Wu for a night of conversation that will include some family tales as well as stories that shaped his latest release, “Double Cup Love.” While “Fresh Off the Boat” inspired a hit series, this book is all about the places that excite Huang’s taste buds. He explores hipster chic Williamsburg along with his roots overseas as readers are taken on a culinary journey. It’s like a literary take on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations.”

Huang gave the show’s producers creative license to be a little more colorful than his bestseller when it went from the bookshelves to the small screen. Before that, he was already a well-respected chef so one can only assume “Double Cup Love” will be a hit with fans and critics as well. Fans of the man, foodies and everyone else are welcomed to the event that features Eddie Huang and Constance Wu. The evening will also feature a pre-show DJ set from L.A.’s own SOSUPERSAM. Every ticket purchased comes with a copy of Huang’s new book; a lot of bang for the buck.

An Evening with Eddie Huang” is June 2 at the Aratani Theatre. Tickets can be purchased here.
