Mad Cool Festival Treats Madrid to Rock Lineup Featuring Foo Fighters, Green Day and Kings of Leon

The Mad Cool Festival takes place in Madrid’s Caja Mágica, or ‘The Magic Box’, from July 6-8 and the lineup will represent sounds from across the spectrum of rock.

There are three main headliners for the 2017 event. Foo Fighters, who perform Thursday, already has a deep European following. Punk rock purveyors Green Day will take the stage Friday night. The latest album “Revolution Radio” was released early last year and spawned “Still Breathing.” Closing out the headlining spot for the weekend will be Kings of Leon. On Saturday night, this band of brothers out of Nashville will treat Spanish fans to tracks from the recently released album “Walls.”

There are plenty more acts on the poster worth mentioning. Belle & Sebastian, The Lumineers, Kurt Vile & the Violators and Warpaint will all play the first night leading up to the Foo Fighters. Friday will be equally as impressive as Alt-J, Ryan Adams, Rancid, Spoon and Röyksopp take the stage. Closing out the night with Kings of Leon will be Wilco, Foster the People, Dinosaur Jr., Xavier Rudd and Moderat. Other acts throughout the weekend include Belako, Kodaline, Kiasmos, Deap Vally, Wolf Alice, Machinedrum and Boys Noize.

The festival site is only 15 minutes from Madrid proper. As far as hotel options go, Madrid offers a vast selection in the heart of the city. Villa Magna is a converted palace, furnished with marble from the old world and contemporary design from today. Hotel Preciados offers a stay in the Ernest Hemingway suite replete with a large window overlooking El Callejón de la Ternera, a restaurant frequented by the suite’s namesake author. Reina Victoria considers itself a “lifestyle hotel,” with an environment conducive to young professionals eager to socialize and dance on the rooftop club.
