Comedian Russell Peters to Perform at Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE

Since his debut in Toronto in 1989, Canadian-born Russell Peters has become one of the highest-paid comedians in the world today. Early in his career, Peters was fortunate enough to receive advice from legendary Comic George Carlin: to become a better comedian, one must perform as much as possible wherever possible. While heeding that advice in 2004, Peters’ appeared on the Canadian TV show “Comedy Now!” and his performance went viral on YouTube. This led to Peters becoming the first comedian to sell out Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, when more than 30,000 tickets were sold nationally in two days for his single show in 2007. He also broke a UK comedy sales record at London’s O2 Arena when 16,000 tickets were sold for his show in 2009.

One of the hardest working comics out there, Peters’ style of comedy revolves around addressing stereotypes and what it was like to grow up as an Indian-Canadian in Toronto. His observational comedy is evidently relatable worldwide. He quickly became a stadium powerhouse comic when he beat the record for the largest standup comedy show in Australian history with an audience of 13,880 people. He also set an attendance record for a single standup comedian at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2012. In 2010, Peters released his autobiography “Call Me Russell,” which he co-wrote with his brother who is also his agent, and his “Notorious” standup tour in 2012 was a smashing success in Lebanon, Singapore, Indonesia, South Africa and Malaysia.

Peters has signed a deal with Netflix to produce a four-part documentary series which may bring him to the U.S. for a longer stay. He also recently earned as spot as a judge on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” alongside Roseanne Barr and Keenan Ivory Wayans. As Peters continues to sell out stadiums, it seems America’s taste in comedy is ready to embrace his musings. He’ll next appear at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on November 8.
