Vance Joy to Play the Fonda Theatre

Australian singer-songwriter James Keogh, or you will recognize him as Vance Joy, is currently on tour with opening act Jaymes Young, set to perform together at the Fonda Theatre on Nov. 28.

“Riptide,” what made the musician so well known internationally, was voted number one on the 2013 Triple J Hottest 100 list. He was received so well that Atlantic Records signed him on for a five-album deal that same year, allowing Joy to release debut studio album “Dream Your Life Away” on Sept. 5 2014.

On the listening front, Vance Joy is said to “fall somewhere between the laid-back surfer charm of Jack Johnson and the bearded earnestness of the Mumfords’ nu folk scene.” The singer’s debut album focuses much on topics of love and romance, his melodic imagery easily stealing the show.

It was announced in July that Joy would be taking on a major U.S. tour in October and November, known as the “Dream Your Life Away” tour. With the quick praise and admiration Vance Joy has attracted in such a short time, it was announced early in November that he would take the opening act slot for Taylor Swift’s upcoming “1989 Work Tour” for its North American dates.

With Joy’s current tour in mind, he is proud to be headlining shows at prominent venues all over the states, including Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit, Lincoln Hall in Chicago, the Marquee in Phoenix, and our very own Fonda Theatre. His opening act, Jaymes Young, will definitely aid Vance in his esteemed efforts to gain an even bigger following. Young’s music is said to be influenced by Coldplay, Radiohead, Maroon 5, Iron & Wine and Death Cab for Cutie.

You can “run down to the riptide,” or you know, just the Fonda Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, to catch Vance Joy strumming his ukulele on Nov. 28.
