James Blake is Bringing His Tour to the Roxy

James Blake will be headlining a short tour kicking off in Paris on November 30, and landing at The Roxy in Los Angeles on Dec. 9.

If you frequent Urban Outfitters, you may have heard one of his electronic remixes blasting through the speakers. On the other hand, you may have caught his cover of Feist’s “Limit to Your Love,” on the last season of “Entourage.” Otherwise, as an American you may not have heard of him at all. The singer-songwriter/electronic producer extraordinaire has been recording songs in his bedroom for years. He attended University in London, and when he wasn’t studying popular music, he was making it. Early on, Blake released multiple EPs, widely recognized as Britain’s next big thing and subsequently overplayed on BBC Radio.

In 2010, Blake was the runner-up to Jesse J for Critic’s Choice at the BRIT Awards, and this was even before he had released a full album. February of 2011 brought the release of Blake’s self-titled debut album and full-fledged international acclaim. In addition, in early 2013, he dropped his sophomore album, “Overgrown.”

Blake has collaborated with many contemporary greats, including Bon Iver, RZA and Brian Eno; the latter two are featured on “Overgrown.” Like his music, his collaborators span multiple musical genres. Blake is passionate about ingenuity and is ahead of his time in that he pushes stylistic and label boundaries. He said, “It’s freed me in some ways because I’m not compartmentalizing my music anymore. I could put out a track on [electronica label] Hessle Audio or I could send it to an MC. All the boundaries have gone.”
