Snakehips to Perform at El Rey Theatre

In the heart of the Miracle Mile of Los Angeles is the El Rey Theatre, a prominent music venue for Angelenos to swarm together on the floor of the art deco building that was once an old movie house back in the 30s. With a wide range of musical guests, the El Rey Theatre is hosting an evening with Snakehips, one of the top synthesist duos of today. Snakehips is the collaboration of Londoner’s Oliver Lee and James Carter, who have received endless praise from their remix abilities with rap, electronic and R&B styles. They will appear at the El Rey Theatre on January 10, giving you the opportunity to revel in their slow jams and awaken the beat in your soul.

Remixing songs for Banks and The Weeknd, Snakehips has taken over the dance floor with their deceleration and deliberate slow motion feel, which seeps into every song they get their hands on. After a few successful remix releases, Snakehips formed collaborations with songwriters to develop original material.

The two producers, Lee and Carter, met on a business trip, where they discovered their symbiosis as musicians and went straight to the recording studio once landing back in London. Contemporizing a few soul classics, Snakehips began releasing their renditions online and eventually created their own label, Hoffman West; the name of which stems from their fake identity that became infamous for getting the duo into VIP clubs.

Releasing their first single “On and On” in 2013, Snakehips’ name rose quickly to headlining shows in London, selling out in record time. The recent release of their newest single, “Day’s Gone By,” featuring Sinead Harnett has expanded their fan base and given their songs airplay on radio stations such as BBC’s Radio 1. Eager to share their music, Snakehips has made multiple songs available for free download on their Facebook page.

If you’re craving that summery feeling, head over to the El Rey Theatre. Snakehips specializes in the combination of sultry boom-bap and easy listening vocals to give listeners the feeling of a hot summer breeze that will have you forgetting it’s even winter.

Jam with Snakehips at the El Rey Theatre on Jan. 10. Tickets available online.
