Cathedrals Hit The Echo for Their Winter Run Tour

Making their way down and then up the coast again, Cathedrals will play The Echo on Feb. 26.

There was a time when pop was meant for Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson. While pop was that way, electronic was reserved for raves out in the middle of nowhere. A place where half-naked 20-somethings could do all the illegal activities they wanted without repercussion.

Somewhere between then and now, the genres started to be acquainted, and artists like Lady Gaga and Sia were born. While Cathedrals sits more on the side of the table with Sia than Gaga, they’re still an electronic based duo with pop elements that dwell in the underground. All of that makes them perfect candidates for hipsters and Coachella attendees.

Their sound intertwines the Lana Del Rey-like vocals with the more lively music to give a delightful result. It’s a bit experimental and unique, making no one doubt they hail from the home of the Golden Gate. They’re well equipped to play the middle of a park or in a venue downtown. Now they’re preparing to leave the Bay and head south for a quick visit and a couple shows. First, they’ll stop in Santa Ana at The Observatory. Then they’ll come and do their thing for the LA crowd at The Echo. After a night in LA, they’ll head home to play The Independent to close out the month.

Fans can expect to hear most of what they want off “Cathedrals” like “Harlem” and “OOO AAA.” Joining Cathedrals in LA will be Chicago’s  Empires, local boys LANY, Rush Midnight all the way from the East Coast, New York. All that talent on one stage for under $15, and that’s a steal for a night out in LA on a Thursday night.

After their Winter Run Tour, Cathedrals will take a little break and then head out to Louisville, Kentucky for the Forecastle festival. They’ll be able to say they shared the bill with Sam Smith, My Morning Jacket, Big K.R.I.T., and Cold War Kids.
