Logic Brings ‘Under Pressure World Tour’ to The Wiltern

Logic will be performing at the Wiltern on Feb. 12 for his “Under Pressure World Tour.” Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, better known by stage name Logic, hails from Gaithersburg, Maryland. Raised by a black father and white mother who both suffered from crack addiction and alcoholism, his father turned out not to be there for a major part of his childhood. During their adolescent years, Logic’s brothers sold crack cocaine, having even gone to lengths to sell the drug to their father.

In high school, Logic began skipping classes as a sophomore. “I started doing badly and failed every class but English,” he explains, “so they kicked me out of school, they gave up on me.” After being expelled, he used his free time as a teenager to pursue music as a professional career.

Logic, at 13 years of age, met his mentor, Solomon Taylor. His mentor gave Logic a variety of beat CDs when the singer was 16. This was as an exercise on writing lyrics. At the time in 2009, Logic was going by the name Psychological. Logic stated, “One name that really stuck was Psychological. I just loved this word because it was about the mind and I knew that’s what I wanted my music to consist of, something that really challenges the mind.

As he established his career, Logic went on to open for Pitbull, Redman, Ludacris, Method Man, and EPMD. Eventually, the name Psychological would be shorted to Logic. In late 2010, Logic released his first official mixtape titled “Young, Broke, and Infamous.” Second mixtape “Young Sinatra” was released in 2011. Having received a mass amount of positive feedback, “Young Sinatra” proved to be a success and Logic went on to sign with Visionary Music Group. Logic’s third mixtape, “Young Sinatra: Undeniable” was released in mid-2012. It is on this mixtape Logic regards vital topics concerning his future and past, from what happened with his father’s drug abuse, his mother being stabbed, and how he was expelled from school.

“Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever” is Logic’s fourth official mixtape, which features guest vocals by Jhene Aiko, Kid Ink, Trinidad James, Jon Bellion, Elijah Blake, Castro, and Dizzy Wright. The mixtape reached 100,000 downloads in less than 24 hours. Logic then went on to tour with the likes of Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and Tyler the Creator on “The Cud Life Tour 2013.”

His debut studio album, “Under Pressure,” was released by Def Jam Recordings and Visionary Music Group in Oct. 2014. The album was recorded roughly over the span of two weeks in both Logic’s home and the studio of No I.D., as well as in hotel rooms where Logic stayed while touring. Debuting at number 4 on the Billboard 200, “Under Pressure” sold over 73,000 copies in its first week.
