Murder By Death Takes On The Roxy
Their name illustrates visions of horror and fear in one’s mind, but in reality, Murder By Death is an indie rock band who would never grace an Ozzfest stage. They will however be headlining at The Roxy on February 7, 2015.
Born and bred at the turn of the millennium in 2000, in Bloomington, Indiana, Murder By Death started among like-minded individuals with similar musical tastes, even though that wasn’t their name at the time. After one of their first shows at the cafe, The Red Herring in Urbana, Illinois the head of the TEAM AV record label offered to help them add more shows to their schedule. Their additional touring paid off and they went on to self-release “Little Joe Gould” EP the following year. Soon after they officially became Murder By Death, and went on to release their first studio album in 2002, “Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing.” A decade later they had their best charting record with “Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon”, which made it to number 76 on the Billboard Chart.
David Fountain and Dagan Thogerson along with original members Adam Turla, Matt Armstrong, and Sarah Balliet are prepping for the release of their newest record, “Big Dark Love.” The band announced in Nov. 2014 that they would be releasing their seventh album on Feb. 3, 2015. It’s perfect timing for their Roxy show. Fans in the City of Angels won’t have long to learn the new material but it’s always a good time hearing songs for the first time.
Their tour kicks off at the end of January in Seattle and then works its way down to Los Angeles. At The Roxy, fans can expect to hear Murder By Death’s signature style amidst fan favorites like “Boy Decide,” “Brother” and “Sometimes the Line Walks You.” Joining them at The Roxy will be singer-songwriter Rocky Votolato. The Texan will be on the road with Murder until they hit Nashville. Then O’Death takes the opening slot, and Saintseneca closes out the last three dates when the tour comes to an end in Chicago.
