Pop Star Lady Gaga and Icon Tony Bennett Team Up For Intimate Show at The Wiltern

New school meets old school as Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett team up to perform songs from their album “Cheek to Cheek” at The Wiltern on Feb. 8, 2015.

The music world would not be the same without Bennett. He’s been a staple for decades with his traditional pop standards and jazz influenced ways. Born and raised in New York, he got his start at an early age and later went on to serve in World War II in the US Army. When he got back, he turned to music and started to fine-tune his style. It paid off as he signed with Columbia Records and had his first number one in 1951 with “Because of You.” After 50 studio albums and 50 million records sold, he collaborated with Lady Gaga.

Gaga too is a New York native and she broke out in 2008 with “The Fame” and would not abandon the charts thanks to singles like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” Her star only continued to rise with the following year’s “The Fame Monster.” She crossed paths with Bennett for the first time after they met backstage in 2011 at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York.

They decided to do an album together to introduce Gaga’s fans, the younger generation, to classic ways and sound. “Cheek to Cheek” was born and released a few years after their initial meeting on Sept. 19, 2014. It proved to be a success as it went number one on the Billboard 200 and jazz albums charts.

Now they two are planning to bring the album to the stage. Their concert at the Wiltern is a perfect venue for their talents. The beautiful interior of the building is a wonderful backdrop for songs like “Anything Goes“, “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”. The environment and music will truly be a delight for music fans both young and old. Los Angeles is a premiere stop for Bennett and Gaga in 2015. They plan to do shows throughout July, and will wrap up their time together in Perugia, Italy.
