Indie Pop Group San Cisco to Play The Troubadour

San Cisco’s sticky tunes wash over you like an invigorating wave of indie pop goodness right after a sweltering heat wave. They are fun, entertaining, and so down to earth. This Western Australian outfit might seem like a collection of four peppy and outgoing kids (and they are) but their music packs quite a punch. Part sugary sweet hooks and part bouncy electric guitars, San Cisco’s indie pop sound stems from the hip and trendy movement of music that is dominating the airwaves right now. It is unpretentious and infectious at the same time. Performing live at the Troubadour on March 10, San Cisco is sure to satiate the musical appetite of Los Angelenos.

Originally called King George, the band changed its name to the ambiguous and nonsensical San Cisco after surveying friends and family. They figured it would be a clean slate to start over. Their debut EP, “Golden Revolver,” was an enormous success by indie pop standards. The success was spearheaded by the catchy title track “Golden Revolver” that is a mix of the carefree quirkiness of The Unicorns and the triumphantly tropical groove of a Vampire Weekend song. Festival appearances became the norm for San Cisco and they were eventually signed to Albert Productions that is home to legendary rockers AC/DC and indie pop songstress Megan Washington.

Their second EP, “Awkward,” raised the bar of how successful and refined they could get. Their sharp and biting title track, “Awkward”, and accompanying music video won the hearts of music fans and managed to place number 7 on Triple J’s Top Singles of 2012. On top of topping the trendiest list of 2012, San Cisco won 8 West Australian Music Industry Awards, along with a plethora of ARIA nominations. The universal nature of their music broke all boundaries landing them on the U.S. label Fat Possum for the release of their eponymous debut album (the Australian release was under Island City Records).

Their sophomore effort “Gracetown” titled after a place that holds fond memories for them, will be released on April 6 and is being touted as their best work to date. Their first single, “Run” is dark and dancey and features a percussive panting sound. They worked with long time producer Steve Schram who has guided the band every step of the way. San Cisco has matured into a band of impressive songwriters and will continue to make a splash with every subsequent release.
