MisterWives Bring Playful Pop to The Troubadour

To say that this year has been a whirlwind for the up-and-coming New York indie pop group MisterWives would an extreme understatement. The band is fronted by vocalist Mandy Lee Duffy, who unexpectedly got the ball rolling in 2012 when she wanted to assemble an 80’s cover band for her birthday party. They only just released their inaugural EP “Reflections” a year ago but they now have a new full-length record hot off the press, and are selling out shows on their new tour around the country. Their next Los Angeles stop will be at the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood on March 13, where they are ready to release their young energy and fiery hits to a live audience.

MisterWives cleverly chose their name as a play on the polygamist practice where multiple women who share a husband refer to themselves as ‘sister wives.’ Not surprisingly, the spunky redheaded frontwoman Duffy is surrounded by a crew of four male instrumentalists that compose their little family of grandstanding pop musicians. In January of 2014, their first EP launched featuring the title track and perfect pop single “Reflections.” Their catchy and eager sound earned the youngsters the right to share a stage with established artists like Bleachers and Half Moon Run.

Finally, they have graduated to releasing their first full-length album barely a year after “Reflections” sparked their success. “Our Own House” received its premier on February 24, 2015 and abounds with lively, high-production tracks such as “Vagabond,” which puts Duffy’s commanding vocals on full display and echoes the art rock sensibilities of Florence and the Machine.

The crew has also been making the rounds on the small screen with a series of late night musical guest bookings. MisterWives’ already magical year only got wilder by paying visits to Late Night with Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and others to show that their live performances live up to the hype of their catchy hooks. One lucky Los Angeles audience will be able to catch MisterWives while they are hot, as the band drops by The Troubadour on March 13 for a night of unapologetic, soulful pop fun.
