Of Montreal will Take Los Angeles for a Two Night Spin

Named after a failed romance between lead singer/ songwriter Kevin Barnes and an unnamed woman from Montreal, Of Montreal has been an indie darling on the music scene since their debut album “Cherry Peel” back in 1997. Of Montreal just released their latest album “Aureate Gloom” late last month. They will be making the rounds on tour this year; with two nights in Los Angeles, at The Regent Theater and The Largo at the Coronet on March 22 and 23.

Though their name may suggest otherwise, Of Montreal is an American rock band hailing from Athens, Georgia. Of Montreal has been highly successful since their inception in 1996, the lineup and sound have not always been so consistent, but this has not posed an issue for the group. Frontman Kevin Barnes has seen the group through lineup changes, relocations, and now with the release of Aureate Gloom, fourteen studio albums. Of Montreal is nothing if not interesting. Their sound has changed tremendously throughout the years, going from 60’s inspired psychedelic pop, to innovative electronica, funk, and now seeming to ease comfortably into more of a late 70’s New York Rock era. Aureate Gloom is described by Barnes as capturing the emotions he felt while going through his separation from his wife of 11 years.

Quite possibly the most raw and emotionally honest album Of Montreal has ever produced, the intensity of the message should translate well into their live performances, making this a must see show for anyone who has been a fan of the band or is looking to be introduced to something spectacular.
