Screen Print Artist Emily Joyce to Premiere Exhibit in Los Angeles

Chinese New Year may be over, but there is still plenty happening in Chinatown this month. Beginning March 21, screen print artist Emily Joyce will be presenting her “Famous Potatoes and Other Related Works” at Human Resources LA in Chinatown.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Emily Joyce has her B.F.A. from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. She also studied at the Glasgow School of Art.  She has previously had solo exhibition in many cities throughout the U.S., including New York, Houston, and right here in Los Angeles at a number of spaces, including the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.

According to the Bemis Center, “Emily Joyce creates large-scale works inspired by images that tell a story, such as tattoos, comics and ancient Codices, unbound, illustrated manuscripts and scrolls that often contained legal edicts.”

Joyce also has strong ties in Texas. She attended the Core Program Fellowship in Houston, received of the Kimbrough Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art, and her work is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

For those unfamiliar with Human Resources, it is a not-for-profit organization that was founded by a creative team who aim to give more exposure to contemporary and conceptual art, as well as “foster widespread public appreciation of the performative arts by encouraging maximum community access.”

HRLA is a space where members of the art community can come together to share ideas and discuss and support non-traditional art.

“Emily Joyce, Famous Potatoes and Other Related Works” will be at Human Resources LA March 21 – April 4.
