Guster are Forever in Motion at The Wiltern

With their seventh album out, Guster is hitting the open road to bring their music to fans everywhere. They’ll be treating L.A. to something great when they land at The Wiltern on April 2.

Tufts University is known for many things and is one of the top schools for college prospects, but musically it’s the place Guster had its start. The members met one another at a Wilderness Orientation their freshmen year in 1991. While they would like to say they knew they’d still be together today, they’re likely surprised that they’re still making music with one another over two decades later.

When they started with their music career, it was just practicing and doing what college kids do. They balanced it with their studies and, in 1994, recorded their first record “Parachute.” That one and “Goldfly” a couple of years later were considered underground. Then, in 1999, they saw themselves in the mainstream with “Lost and Gone Forever.” They had a hit with their single “Fa Fa.” Over the years and a few albums later, their music has been heard in a variety of movies and television shows including “Disturbia,” “Wedding Crashers,” and in “The O.C.”

Musically, their alternative rock style has caught the attention of college kids everywhere when they hit the scene, and have since gained new fans while continuing to have a strong connection to those who were there from the start. The band has a great reputation when it comes to fan relations. They make sure to keep in contact with them via weekly updates and today through various social media outlets.

Their live show is something to be seen. They’re always full of life and their drummer Brian Rosenworcel plays anything he can get his hands on including the bongos, a cascade of other drums, and cymbals. All of these he can and often plays with his bare hands. While it looks painful, it must not be since he’s been doing it since ‘91.

From the halls of Tufts to today, Guster is one of those bands who’ll likely play until the end of their days. They’re currently on tour, will be in L.A. in April, and will wind down at the beginning of May in Portland, Oregon. After that, they’ll be hitting the summer festival circuit.
