TV On The Radio to Take Over The Palladium

Almost 15 years under their belt and TV On The Radio is showing no signs of slowing down as they gear up for their Palladium show on April 3.

In a city where rap is king, an indie band sprung up in 2001. TV On The Radio formed by a cast of characters then has since changed some stage scenery, but nevertheless the music has remained at the forefront of their mission. Just a year after coming together, they self-released their debut, “OK Calculator.” They went on to get signed a couple years later and released “Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes” in 2004. Like clockwork their next two records came out a couple years apart. Then they hit a every-three-years-an-album streak with “Nine Types of Light” in 2011 and last year’s “Seeds.” While they were putting out full lengths, they also released a handful of EPs in between then and now.

While they’ve been a staple in the indie rock scene for sometime, they haven’t made waves on the charts. Singles like “Staring at the Sun” and “Will Do” are adored by fans, but they didn’t make an appearance on Billboard until 2006 with “Wolf Like Me” and last year saw their highest position with “Happy Idiot.” It’s no fault of their own though because the music world isn’t what it used to be. It’s more about word of mouth than charting anyways. Nevertheless, they’re playing one of the biggest venues in LA.

With so many members over the years, that correlates to a lot of influences coming in and out. However, when it all boils down their eclectic sound that comes from loving acts like Earth, Wind & Fire, Nancy Sinatra and Serge Gainsbourg. One can tell from their albums that they are about taking influences and making it their own. That is why they’ve been able to grow and thrive over the years.

TV On The Radio will be joined at the Palladium by the duo Shabazz Palaces as well as the very avant-garde Nostalghia. The three will be sure to captivate the LA crowd and make it a Friday night worth talking about throughout the weekend.
