Highly Anticipated ‘Furious 7’ Promises Closure for Fans
It’s both a somber yet exciting time for those who’ve followed the “Fast & Furious” franchise from the start as “Furious 7” opens nationwide April 3.
An outsider who has never set eyes on any of the “Fast” films might wonder what the appeal is for moviegoers. What makes these continue to be box office smashes? Well here’s the rundown – it has action packed scenes made better with cars for the men and gorgeous drivers for the ladies. Overall, it’s one of the few franchises that not in the sci-fi realm that has been able to last and thrive with each release. Fans are both ecstatic for another film in a series they’ve loved for over a decade. At the same time, many are going to be overwhelmed seeing the late Paul Walker for the last time.
This time around, Walker’s Brian O’Conner, Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto, and the rest of their gang have defeated Owen Shaw and are now heading back to the states to get their lives back on track. That would be a boring movie, so to toss in some drama. Shaw’s brother is after the gang and of course is seeking revenge for his slain brother.
“Furious 7” was scheduled for a Summer 2014 release, but production was put on hold after Walker passed away due to a car crash in November 2013. It was a shock to not only fans, but deeply affected the cast and crew who were more like family. After some time and rewrites, it was announced that Walker’s brothers would step in and complete his final scenes.
So far, reviews from screenings have been positive for the seventh installment. Predictions for another box office smash are also high. Some are estimating that “Furious 7” could open with well over $100 million in ticket sales. If that happens, it’ll have the record for an April release, which is currently held by the Marvel giant “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” that opened strong with $95 million. It would also break its own franchise record that is held by the last one, “Fast & Furious 6.”
