Sufjan Stevens Will Get Personal at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

American multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens has been capturing ears since the release of his debut album, “A Sun Came” in 2000. With the recent release of his seventh studio album, “Carrie & Lowell” Stevens is on the road again to bring sonic catharsis to fans at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Sufjan Stevens has always been a sort of do-it-yourselfer. With a knack for the guitar, Sufjan released “A Sun Came” in 2000 on Asthmatic Kitty, the record label he co-founded with his stepfather. Wasting no time, Sufjan released his electronic sophomore effort “Enjoy Your Rabbit” the next year. Fans and critics alike have been drawn to Stevens’s ability to make use of various instruments and his mastery of unique and difficult time signatures. In the past, Sufjan Stevens has dabbled in many a musical style, trying everything from holiday music to orchestra- backed tracks, to layered electro-pop. With the release of 2015’s “Carrie & Lowell,” Sufjan finds himself returning to an earlier time in his career where powerful, almost whispered lyrics took center stage over indie folk guitar carried melodies. The album is both a tribute and candid exploration of his grief following the passing of his mother Carrie in 2012. The material is honest and personal, making it one of Stevens’ best to date.

Sufjan’s amazing ability to pen narratives with enough emotional acuity to make his experiences relatable is unmatched by anyone in the industry today.
