Amy Poehler and Tina Fey Return to Host The Golden Globes

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey return for the third time to host The Golden Globes at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles on Jan. 11, 2015. The Golden Globes have been the place to be the last two years and that’s mostly due to the dynamic pairing of real life comrades and comical genius’ Fey and Poehler. The SNL alums who both took to NBC for their own hit series, have continued to make this awards show their own since 2013. Sadly will hang up their hosting crowns as they’ve already announced this will be the last time they host together. They’ll likely go out with a bang as the worlds of movies and television collide in a decked out hotel room hall. While most awards shows are stuffy, the Globes allow actors to let loose and actually enjoy themselves instead of being stuffed into a seat for three hours in a theater setup.

Fey and Poehler will be bringing their A-game for their last run as nominees sit comfortably waiting for their chance to take the stage as a winner. Both the Globes and the SAG Awards air in January, but looking at the nominees, there are similarities in nominations. “Birdman” is looking like the top contender at the SAGs as well as the Globes, with Michael Keaton and his co-stars Emma Watson and Edward Norton all being nominated. The movie got seven in total.

Keaton and his fellow “Birdman” stars will be on deck that night, but it’s up in the air if movie fans will see Angelina Jolie and Bradley Cooper that night. Her “Unbroken” was as overlooked as his “”American Sniper.” Speaking of who may not be there, the casts of both rating smashers “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family.” The popular shows were overlooked. In their place for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical are, The CW’s telenovela style show, “Jane the Virgin,” newcomer “Silicon Valley” and “Transparent” along with “Girls” and “Orange is the New Black.” The Globes took risks with those nominees, but new faces in the categories are refreshing and proof that shows cannot just rely on popularity for recognition during awards season.

The television drama categories however mirror the SAG ones just a bit with “Game of Thrones,” “Downton Abbey” and “House of Cards” being noted. As well as Viola Davis with her first time out on “How to Get Away with Murder” earning a SAG and Globe nomination and having to fight off Claire Danes and Robin Wright for both.

The Golden Globes air Jan. 11, 2015 on NBC.
