New Zealand Duo Broods Elevate the Consciousness of L.A. Fans

Auckland, New Zealand‘s indie-pop duo Broods took over the stage at The Novo in Downtown L.A. for a night of Georgia Nott‘s airy, angelic vocals and the body rocking instrumentals of her brother Caleb Nott. Having played together since childhood, Broods is a wholly organic and successful musical union. Their 2014 album “Evergreen,” reached number one on the New Zealand music charts and went to #45 on the US charts and they have continued their run with new album, “Conscious.” Sonically, the Broods’ seamlessly meld together hard hitting electronica and haunting vocals.

Broods began the night with a quiet intro as the song “Conscious” slowly built up until Georgia suddenly let loose her powerful voice along with a burst of strobe lights and lasers shooting into the crowd. Caleb, busy behind the rhythm pads and keyboards, played through songs from “Conscious” and “Evergeen” as Georgia moved about the stage in a dazzling, sparkling dress with frills that hung from her sleeves and swayed as she sang along to the beats.

Georgia’s powerful voice is pleasantly put on display with their catchy songs, but it’s hard to appreciate her range and depth until you see her give it all live on stage. When singing her heart out on the hit single “Heartlines,” you could feel the crowd becoming enamored as many screamed, “Get it Georgia!” Towards the end of their set, Caleb stepped out from the back of the stage to perform a few songs of theirs with an acoustic guitar in his hand, which was a nice change of pace from the rest of  the show. The lights blinding behind Caleb and Georgia, flashing in tandem with the instrumentals, paired with the dream like vocals,  made for mesmerizing night. Once their set concluded, fans chanted for an encore, and, of course, the duo had to give into the demands.
