Will Selina Meyer Take Another Stab at a Presidential Election on Season 6 of HBO’s ‘Veep’?

Veep” has returned to HBO for season six and it’s safe to say Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) will face more than enough inner and outer struggles in the upcoming episodes as she and her team try to pick up the pieces following their election loss.

One year has gone by since the season five finale, when Meyer had a breakdown after she not only losing the race for President, but her Vice President spot as well. It looks like this season will center on Selina as she tries to pull herself together following her emotional meltdown, or as Selina described it, her time at the “spa,” that took place during the show’s hiatus.

Once she returned, she had this awkward ability to act like she didn’t just lose the major race last season and wanted to make a shocking comeback. She even told Gary about her plans to attend the Madison-Monroe dinner in Iowa; an event for potential Presidential candidates who hope to win the White House in the future.  Selina’s presence would be more of a statement than any one she could make about her big loss.

Thankfully, Ben stepped in and gave Selina a harsh look at reality before she could embarrass herself again. He told her she had no chance of winning the Presidency. She tried to say she was only kidding, but it’s possible this is just one of Selina’s many attempts to get back into the good graces of the American people; especially since she went as far as telling her family she wanted to run again. She might want to have a chat with Amy who now runs her fiancé, Buddy Calhoun’s race for governor in Nevada for a few tips.

Ben’s speech for Selina could only be the beginning of their banter in the new episodes. She and Ben will be working closely together this season as she hired him as an employee of her charity; even after he was fired from Uber for making inappropriate racial comments. This decision almost proves why Selina wouldn’t be a great President. She explained the charity as one that helps with adult literacy before adding AIDS to the list clearly on the fly during an appearance on This Morning. It might be safe to say the charity work will serve as a somewhat healthy distraction for Selina.

As for Mike, Selina could only hope that his journal entries during his time as her Press Secretary would be enough to make the book she’s working on a success. This will either be a very right or very wrong move for her. It could remind everyone why she was voted the second least-effective President in the history of the country, or it could let people see a side of her she has never shown. Plus, the only way she’ll be able to pay Mike for his notes is if the book is a hit.

Her career isn’t the only thing that’s set to struggle this season. Her personal life was still in shambles as she’s made Catherine’s apartment in New York City her new home base. She also had a blast from the past as her sneaky ex-husband Andrew Meyer (David Pasquesi) resurfaced.  Her reaction and one-liners show that while she might not make a good President, she’s loveable anyway.

Veep” Season 6 premiered April 16 and airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO.
