‘Bridesmaids’ Gets the Dinner Theater Treatment in Rockwell’s ‘Unauthorized Musical Parody’

Rockwell Table & Stage will skewer the raunchy comedy “Bridesmaids,” in its Unauthorized Musical Parody series. Yes, you probably read that, rolled your eyes and thought ‘why parody a parody? It’s going to come off completely over the top, ridiculous and stupid!’ But wait until you see the show. Performed with a live band playing pop songs to move the stories, the troupe brings the cookie. Rockwell Table & Stage will present “The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Bridesmaids” in a limited run from Aug. 11 to Sept. 17. Shows will run Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.

Advance press warns “The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Bridesmaids” will be the “raunchiest and craziest show you will see all summer,” and recommends only audiences of 17 and up get off the couch. While “Bridesmaids” was a blockbuster, watched and re-watched by legions of maids of dishonor, Rockwell Table & Stage says “just wait to see what we have in store for you.”

The show was written and is being produced by Kate Pazakis. It is co-directed by Tony Award Winner Marissa Jaret Winokur and Christopher Youngsman. Gregory Nabours is the musical director. The cast includes Natalie Lander, Desi Dennis-Dylan, Ashley Argota, Nohely Quiroz, Aynsley Bubbico, and Molly Stilliens, Nathan Moore, Keir Kirkegaard, and Michael Thomas Grant.

“Annie (Natalie Lander), is a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Molly Stilliens), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Ashley Argota, Nohely Quiroz, Aynsley Bubbico, and Desi Dennis-Dylan) on a wild ride down the road to the ‘I do’s,’” reads the official synopsis. “Annie’s life is a total hot mess, however, when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as the maid of honor. Though tragically single and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love.”

The UMPO (The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of) series was created by Pazakis in 2015. The troupe “merges movies and musical theatre, revisiting popular films and retooling them for live audiences. UMPO audiences have been cheering and laughing since 2015.

The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Bridesmaids” runs from Aug. 11 to Sept. 17 at Rockwell Table & Stage, with shows taking place Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and noon on Sunday.
