Michelin Announces 2018 Stars for New York City Restaurants
Michelin announced their 2018 selections for the starred restaurants in New York City on October 30, 2017. In total, New York City boasts sixty two starred restaurants and 127 Bib Gourmand restaurants.
This year there are five restaurants in New York with three stars, the highest award held only by 116 restaurants around the globe. The restaurants awarded with three stars were the five that retained their stars from the previous year. The five restaurants are Cesar Ramirez’s Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, the newly reopened Eleven Madison Park by Will Guidara and Chef Daniel Humm, Masayoshi Takayama’s omakase temple Masa, Eric Ripert’s Le Bernardin, and Thomas Keller’s Per Se.
New changes to the list this year include the now two-starred Sushi Ginza Onodera, which was upgraded from their one star position last year, joining the ranks of ten other restaurants in NYC such as Aska, Atera, Jungsik, Marea, Daniel, Jean-Georges, and more. The restaurant is now the only Japanese restaurant in the US to garner the two star award.
Other additions include six new one-star restaurants. Sushi and Japanese cuisine in the city seem to have impressed the Michelin inspectors with three new additions in the category. There is the 10-seat sushi counter Satsuki headed by Yuta Suzuki, son of sushi legend Toshio Suzuki. In Midtown, one star foes to Sushi Amane and its eight-seat sushi counter helmed by Shion Uino who came from Tokyo’s three-starred Sushi Saito. Bar Uchu, headed by chef Samuel Clonts (formerly of Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare), is awarded one star for its kaiseki-inspired tasting menu.
In other culinary categories is Cote, the new Korean steakhouse concept from chef David Shim which opened earlier this year in Flatiron. The Clocktower from British Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton also gains one star. Rouge Tomate was a Michelin-starred restaurant in Chelsea which closed in 2014 and reopened in 2016 under Alan Wise.
The 2018 Michelin Guide for New York City goes on sale Nov 3, 2017.
