Dirty Looks of NYC to Perform at the Hammer Museum
Julianne Ishler
The New York-based experimental roaming series Dirty Looks Roadshow will be performing at UCLA’s Hammer Museum on Nov. 18. Dirty Looks NYC made their mark on the avant-garde scene in 2011 as they began landing local exhibitions at art museums including The Museum of Modern Art, The Kitchen, Participant Inc, White Columns and more. The series presents quintessential LGBT film and videos amongst up-and-coming artists and filmmakers, aiming to unite young artists with seasoned avant-garde filmgoers. In 2011, the group gained their following as they launched their month-long “Dirty Looks: On Location” of queer interventions throughout New York City, which attracted 2,500 viewers and was featured in The New York Times. In 2014, they expanded to an online publishing platform, and have embarked on a handful of west coast tours, performing at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles Film Forum and MOCA.
This year at the Hammer, Dirty Looks Roadshow’s multimedia performances will highlight the works of Dynasty Handbag, Narcissister, Colin Self and Chris E. Vargas. The works of these artists will come together for an evening celebrating the LGBT community through experimental art.
The Dirty Looks Roadshow will take place at UCLA’s Hammer Museum on Nov. 18. Admission to all Hammer events is free and open to the public.
