Sam Smith Will Bare His Soul at The Forum
Unless you have been living under a rock this last year, it is easy to recognize the illustrious vocals of British pop/soul artist, Sam Smith. The heartwarming star has risen to a peak of endless popularity and praise only in the last two years. Hitting the road on a six-month tour, Sam Smith will be swooning audiences all over the world, stopping at The Forum in Inglewood for a two-night affair, on Jan. 29 and 30.
Currently sitting on six 2015 Grammy nominations, Smith was first discovered after his featured vocals in the Disclosure hit “Latch,” peaking at No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2013, Smith released his first single, “Lay Me Down,” which leads to an eventual EP release. With major hype building from multiple single releases, Smith’s debut album, “In This Lonely Hour,” hit stores in May 2014. That year, he was nominated for two American Music Awards, taking home a win for Favorite Male Artist in Pop/Rock.
An unyielding fan base accrued, as Smith won the world’s heart over with his solo album and alluring vocals. Claiming that the album told the stories of his unrequited love, “In This Lonely Hour,” hit No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Smith’s music covers all sides of his voice, both slow, simple acoustic sounds, as well as powerhouse, guttural emotive skill through vocals. Smith has spoken of his influences stemming from female artists, such as Adele and Amy Winehouse, making sense of his diva-esque sounding qualities.
