Grouplove Announce a Very Special Benefit Show at The Troubadour
Grouplove has played shows across the US and around the world, but they’re getting personal with their show at The Troubadour on Jan. 24. It’s a special benefit for their lead singer’s cousin.
It wasn’t too long ago that the music world was without Grouplove. A little over a few years ago their now keyboardist Hannah Hooper met leading man Christian Zucconi on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. All the stars aligned as they not only enjoyed one another’s company, but musical chops as well. From there things organically formulated as the rest of the band was formed with Andrew Wessen, Ryan Rabin, and Sean Gadd. Since then, they’ve had only one member shake up when bassist Gadd left in 2014 and was replaced by Daniel Gleason.
Before the lineup switch, Grouplove released a self-titled EP that landed them a deal with Atlantic, and released their EP. Then came their grand début, “Never Trust a Happy Song” in Sept. 2011. It did well for their first time out and gave indie radio inescapable songs like “Colours” and “Tongue Tied.” Their most recent record, 2013’s “Spreading Rumours” did even better than that previous, hitting number 21 on the charts.
It’s fitting that the band would want to do this benefit show in the LA area. Their first show in 2010 was at El Cid. Now they’re heading to The Troubadour to raise money for Zucconi’s cousin John Toomey. Toomey is in need of a kidney transplant. Before he is eligible for that though, he has to be treated for hepatitis C – which he had contracted from earlier dialysis treatments. He’s not only Zucconi’s cousin, but a husband and a father who would like to have the procedure as soon as possible. That is why 100% of the proceeds from the show will head his way.
Grouplove has played venues across the world big and small, but it’s been some time since they’ve played somewhere as intimate as The Troubadour. That’s why fans are going to want to come out. Not only to support a great cause, like saving a life, but to also see one of their favorite bands in one of the smallest places in town.
To crack down on scalpers the venue is restricting things and limiting tickets to two per person, as well as making it a will call only show.
Grouplove‘s special benefit show takes place at The Troubadour Jan. 24, 2015. Tickets can be purchased here.
