Bad Suns to Bring ‘Language & Perspective’ to El Rey Theatre

American alternative rock band Bad Suns will be hitting the El Rey Theatre’s stage on Jan. 24. Opening for Bad Suns is Coasts and Maudlin Strangers.

Formed in 2012 in Woodland Hills, Bad Suns is made up of vocalist Christo Bowman, bassist Gavin Bennett, guitarist Ray Libby, and drummer Miles Morris, with their ages ranging from 19 to 22.

Christo cites their sound as reminiscent of classic rock, saying, “I grew up with a lot of world music playing in the house. When I was 10, I started getting heavily interested in the guitar and my dad began introducing me to his records from the ‘70s and the ‘80s. Initially Elvis Costello, then to The Clash, The Cure, and so on. All of these artists and bands had a big impact on me at a young age, as far as song composition goes.”

EP “Transpose” was released early in 2014, which was recorded in the studio with producer Eric Palmquist of Mars Volta, Wavves, and Trash Talk fame. This led to the band’s release of their full-length debut album “Language & Perspective,” which was available in summer 2014. The album is described to be rousing, wry, sexy, gritty, and volatile.

Bad Suns will be promoting their debut album at the El Rey Theatre with opening acts Coasts and Maudlin Strangers. Noteworthy tracks to listen to that night will be “Cardiac Arrest,” “Dancing on Quicksand,” and “Salt.” Still rather fresh to the music scene, the band aspires to branch out on tours, the foursome excited for what the new year has to bring.

Bad Suns will be performing at the El Rey Theatre on Jan. 24. Tickets are available for purchase here.
