Discover Life’s Importance with Arthur Miller’s ‘The Price’ Mark Taper Forum
Life imitates art imitates life…or something along those lines. You can decide for yourself at Center Theatre Group’s production of ‘The Price,” an Arthur Miller classic where two estranged brothers regroup and recount in their dead fathers’ attic, discovering their families dark secrets when divvying up his possessions. This riveting drama opens on Feb. 11 at the Mark Taper Forum in downtown LA, and will have audiences asking, “How do we measure the value of our lives?”
Known for his spellbinding stories, Miller was a king of family drama, exposing complex characters in the company of their own home. John Proctor of ‘The Crucible’ was tormented by his adulterous past that happened under his roof, and Chris Keller lives in the shadow of his missing brother while living in his childhood home in ‘All My Sons.’ In ‘The Price,’ Miller delivers dramatic family confessions between two brothers, Victor and Walter Franz.
Playing at the Mark Taper Forum, ‘The Price’ is one of the many classic and provocative shows put on by Center Theatre Group, LA’s most prominent non-profit arts institution. With three theaters in the Los Angeles area, the Mark Taper Forum is the second largest, giving audience members an idea of what an intimate theater space can offer.
Leading the cast as the two electrifying brothers are John Bedford Lloyd and Sam Robards. Easily recognizable in film and television, Lloyd is known for his role in ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ and Robards has been seen running with Kevin Spacey in ‘American Beauty’ and playing Nate Archibald’s father on CW’s ‘Gossip Girl.’ Stepping out of the screen and on the stage, the two are expected to unleash a fiery feud with this epitomic theatrical piece.
Completing the cast, are Alan Mandell and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Kate Burton, because there’s nothing like an angry wife and a funny uncle to help a brotherly quarrel. Directed by the first female to win a Tony for direction of a play, Garry Hynes is sure to embellish the haunting beauty of this timeless classic and have audience members questioning the importance of a life. Catch ‘The Price’ at the Mark Taper Forum from Feb. 11 through March 22.
