Riff Raff Brings the Party to House of Blues

Every so often, an artist comes around that fascinates people. Right now, this is Riff Raff and those who are interested can see him at House of Blues Sunset on Feb. 14.

Born Horst Christian Simco, Riff Raff was your average kid growing up in Texas and then Ohio. Unlike many emcees who pick up the craft in their youth, Raff didn’t start rapping and making homemade CDs until he was 23-years-old in 2005. Working over the next few years on his craft, he started to take full advantage of the growing world of social media. He took to MySpace, YouTube, and WorldStarHipHop to try to get his name and music out there.

Like many artists during that time, his rise to fame was through the Internet. He gained a wider audience working alongside Soulja Boy’s S.O.D. Money Gang Inc. Riff Raff is also, for, those who remember Andy Milonakis from MTV back in the early ‘00s, part of a rap group with that star and Dirt Nasty. However, Milonakis isn’t the only actor/rapper that he’s associated with over the years. He’s also worked with Simon Rex.

Even though he was making waves in the underground scene, the masses didn’t take notice of him until 2012 when he stumbled into controversy about James Franco’s “Spring Breakers.” Riff Raff was not happy with Franco’s character in the film and thought the director fashioned the character, Alien after him. The case never really played out in court and things passed. Since then, he has released his debut record, 2014’s “Neon Icon.”

With a cult following, Riff Raff was able to garner enough steam to go full throttle into 2015. He has not one, but two albums due out on June 1, “Peach Panther” and “Purple Panther.” On top of that, he’s embarking on a month long US tour. It kicks off in Ohio, hits Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day, and then winds down in Idaho.
