From the Internet to the Stage, Miranda Sings Comes to L.A.

The Internet has a million and one stars, but very few can crossover into the mainstream like Miranda Sings. She’s bringing her millennial style of comedy to Club Nokia on Feb. 23 and 24.

Video killed the radio star, and in recent years, the Internet killed the video star. YouTube is a force to be reckoned with if you are an artist starting a career. Every day millions of users upload their videos in hopes of being one of its stars. The guys who make up Smosh, the romance advice giver Ben Breedlove and funny gals like Miranda Sings have all been lucky enough to not fall by the wayside and actually rise to stardom via viral videos.

Seven years ago, Colleen Ballinger created an alter ego of sorts, Miranda Sings. She, Miranda not Ballinger, is a stereotypical hot mess. She’s egotistical but shouldn’t be as she lacks any sort of talent as she sings and gives tutorials. The woman behind her created the character to sort of mock those who think uploading a video to the famous site will indeed make them famous. Ironic, since she’s now famous for doing what she set out mocking. To those who hate her for that, Miranda would yell her famous catchphrase, “Haters back off!”

Miranda, just a year after she took the show on the road, is delighting everyone from cabaret crowds to theater goers in from coast to coast in the US and even parts of the UK and Canada. For years now, she has fine tuned her horrendous singing of everything from show tunes and pop music.

That’s what fans can expect when they hit up one or both of her shows at Club Nokia. She’s hit the big time. Most comedians would take their act to one of the numerous clubs around LA like The Laugh Factory or The Improv, but Miranda offers something more than stand up. She’s doing more than telling tales and making observations. Her act is about the character at hand and doing a full set of the things she’s synonymous with on her channel.

Miranda Sings plays Club Nokia on Feb. 23 and 24. Tickets can be purchased here.
