Bambu to Shed Some Light at the Echoplex

Bambu is one of the most exciting hip-hop acts on the scene today. Known for his reflective and well-balanced lyrics, Bambu has an innate ability to connect with listeners on a deep level. Originally a part of the Native Guns, a Los Angeles rap group, Bambu has since moved on and released several solo albums. He is now on tour and will be making a stop at the Echoplex on March 15.

Bambu first appeared on the rap scene back in 2002 when The Native Guns rap group was formed. Consisting of two Filipino American MCs and one Chinese DJ, the group drew from a wide range of influences, and shined a light on everything from local issues, socioeconomic problems, to cultural bias. The group released an album and a handful of mix-tapes until their eventual disbanding in 2007. Bambu’s solo work often infuses the use of Tagalog in his rhymes, and this has allowed him to play a major part in bringing the voice of the Filipino community into the world of hip-hop. He emphasizes cultural pride, solidarity, and social justice in many of his songs, making Bambu one of the foremost political rappers today. His latest album, “Son of a Gun” was released back in August of 2013, and has been well received by fans and critics alike.

This current tour will include DJ Phatrick from the original Native Guns group to sweeten the pot. Lyrically complex and poignant, fans of hip-hop should take advantage of this opportunity to see Bambu live.

Bambu will take the stage at the Echoplex March 15. Tickets available here.
