Kat Denning’s Inspires in ‘To Write Love on Her Arms’

Based on the true story of Renee Yohe, “To Write Love on Her Arms” shows how she overcame the worst life had to throw at her and went on to inspire many around the world. It’s been three years since it was filmed and it’s finally coming to theaters March 31.

A line in the trailer captures Yohe beautifully, “Her story’s not unique, but she is.” She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that is just the surface of her tale. She went on to battle drugs, depression, and suicide attempts. Then instead of succumbing to it all, Yohe was the inspiration for a wonderful organization, To Write Love on Her Arms. More commonly and easily known as TWLOHA, was founded in 2006 by Jamie Tworkowski after meeting and writing about Yohe’s time spent in treatment.

Directed by Nathan Frankowski, “To Write Love on Her Arms” premiered at the Omaha Film Festival in March 2012. A month later, it opened at the 21st Florida Film Festival. Now it’s finally getting a wide release.

Kat Dennings stars as Yohe and dominates the role. She’s one of the few young actresses out there who can give a quick jab to make audiences laugh, but she’s no stranger to making hearts ache with her dramatics. Playing the founder of TWLOHA is Chad Michael Murray. It seems like he’s been under a rock for a minute but her has this and is doing well currently on ABC’s “Agent Carter.” Rounding out the cast is a mixture of child stars from “All That’s” Mark Saul to “High School Musical’s” Corbin Bleu.

“To Write Love on Her Arms” is for anyone looking for that ounce of hope. That’s what the organization has always been about and there’s no doubt that this movie will be a hit for those who’ve found solace in TWLOHA over the years, but also for those who love movies about overcoming the odds. It’s also going to be big for the Warped Tour crowds because that’s the scene TWLOHA where it has really shined since starting almost a decade ago.

To Write Love on Her Arms” opens nationwide on March 3.
