The 2015 MTV Movie Awards Heads to the Nokia Theatre
For the second year in a row, the MTV Movie Awards will be shot live at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. While the Oscars land some pretty big names, younger folks will argue that this awards show lands the cooler ones. The always hilarious and outspoken Amy Schumer will be on deck to host along with presenters that include the cast of “The Avengers,” Mark Wahlberg, late night’s Jimmy Kimmel and more.
It was a great year for movies, but while the critically acclaimed are showered with love throughout the typical award season, MTV likes to shine a light on the ones that usually are aimed at their demographic. There’s no shame in that because films like “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Neighbors” deserve some recognition, right? They also happen to lead the nominee pack with seven apiece.
Speaking of “Fault,” its star Shailene Woodley will take home the MTV Trailblazer Award. It’s usually handed out to young stars who are making all the right choices in their careers and are destined for continued greatness. Past winners of this have been Channing Tatum and the elegant Emma Watson of “Harry Potter” fame. Other special awards will be the MTV Generation Award that, unlike the latter, is for those who’ve already had an amazing run and proven career. The 2015 recipient will be none other than Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr. Kevin Hart will also be honored with the Comedic Genius Award. Oddly enough, the last person to win this was his “Get Hard” co-star Will Ferrell.
Other than those special awards, this show stands out for its eccentric categories like the fan favorite Best Kiss. If tradition holds true, the girl on girl action in “Neighbors” has this one in the bag, or fans may have leaned towards James Franco and Seth Rogen in “The Interview.” On that note, Franco goes head-to-head with his little brother in the Best Duo category. While they’re a completely different show than those other awards shows, one thing they have in common with the Oscars is the number of nominees in Best Movie, of eight total.
Amy Schumer hosts the MTV Movie Awards Sunday, April 12 live from Nokia Theatre. Fans can try to snag tickets here.
