Smallpools Make a Splash at El Rey Theatre

Smallpools opened 2015 with a bang, releasing their debut album “LOVETAP!” in early March. Touring in promotion of this milestone since the start of the year, this pop quartet finally made their way to the El Rey Theatre May 29.
Forming just two years ago in 2013, the members of Smallpools had been involved in various musical groups since 2007, but it was not until the group relocated from New York and New Jersey to the golden state did their careers begin to take off. Their musical exploits led to the release of their debut EP on RCA in mid 2013 and it included their first single, the immensely popular track “Dreaming.” following supporting tours alongside Two Door Cinema Club, Walk The Moon and Neon Trees, the group was invited to play at 2014’s Lollapalooza and the road to their first full length record began. “LOVETAP!” was released to commercial success and gave Smallpools the traction they needed to headline their first ever nationwide headlining tour. The boys kept the momentum going at their El Rey show. A ten song non stop dance commenced with an energetic rendition of “No Story Time” followed by a raucous “Street Fight.” the group pounded through their debut with feverish energy, ending the night with “Killer Whales.” It was not long before the crowd’s call for an encore was met with “Submarine.”
Smalllpools eventually ended the evening with their hit “Dreaming,” leaving the venue full of danced out, sweaty and happy fans.
