Wilco Brings ‘Star Wars’ to the Greek Theatre

Wilco has been around for some time, so it’s no surprise that when they take the stage – they deliver. 20 years ago they formed, and they’ve been making music steadily ever since. Now they’re on tour in support of their latest album, “Star Wars,” and doing something not many bands can do. They are definitely treating fans to something special, and L.A. was just one of the stops on their summer out on the road.

Most bands release a new record and when they tour they play a handful of new songs. Fans are always okay with that because they may not have learned the new ones just yet. Well, Wilco did things differently. They took the stage at the Greek Theatre and amid the sounds of nature, they played “Star Wars” in its entirety. They walked on to “EKG” and then got underway with “More…” and their latest single, “Random Name Generator.”

Like true musicians, they didn’t interfere with their performance with banter but just eased in and out of songs until they wrapped the new ones up. The oldies but goodies part of the set was kicked off with “Handshake Drugs.” Then came “I’m the Man Who Loves You” and a cover of Uncle Tupelo’s “We’ve Been Had.” Since all things come to an end, “California Stars” was rightfully how the night came to a close.

Wilco performed at the Greek Theatre August 5.
