Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs Comes to Natural History Museum
Mummies are coming just in time for Halloween to the Natural History Museum. The Field Museum in Chicago developed this inside look at these ancient finds to make the Mummies: New Secrets from the Tomb exhibit come to life.
What makes this exhibit interesting is that there will be over 20 mummies from Egypt to Peru on display that have never been seen by the public. The mummies come from a wide range of backgrounds and vary in ages, but there are helpful notes besides each mummy in the exhibit.
Mummies aren’t the only thing to see at the New Secrets from the Tomb exhibit. The Natural History will also have decorated coffins, sarcophaguses, tools, and mummies of birds, cats, and crocodiles on display. It’s common knowledge the Egyptians often mummified their pet cats, but to see a mummified crocodile is unusual. Those who are a little daring can take part in the interactive portion of New Secrets in which attendees are welcomed to “unwrap” layers of mummies.
History buffs or those who have always had a fascination with mummies are urged to check out this exclusive look into the past. Members can see this all for free, others can start reserving their tickets today. Then of course, those who are planning to come as a group can reach out for discount pricing rates for those coming with 10 or more people. The Natural History Museum resides in Park alongside the Coliseum and the California Science Center.
Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs is on display at the Natural History Museum Sept. 18, 2015 and will be there through Jan. 18, 2016. Tickets can be purchased here.
