The Shrine Shines With Tenacious D, Amy Poehler and Die Antwoord at Festival Supreme
October is a month for comedy fans. Judd Apatow is bringing his friends to Largo, The Tenderloins are going from the small screen to the stage at Club Nokia, Margaret Cho is making waves at The Wiltern, and so many great names from the world of stand up are teaming up with their musical pals for the Festival Supreme. While it’s always about having a good time, this year they’re hoping to put a little sin into the mix.
This year Supreme’s theme is “Las Vegas Style,” and means come dressed to impress. Think back to the days when Vegas was all about the Rat Pack and not the tourist fanny pack. Now that the attire has been covered, onto the talent. Comedy shows don’t usually involve music, unless they feature funny guys and gals who present their jokes in that manner. Supreme will pay its respect to musicians as well as comedians and this year it has Die Antwoord, Andrew W.K., The Darkness and, of course, the headliners and men who put this on every year, Tenacious D.
Jack Black and Kyle Gass are the types who definitely walk the line between music and funny with Tenacious D, and that’s why they always have a handful of musical acts on the roster, but they’re never without a cascade of talented comedians. “Parks and Recreation” stars Amy Poehler and Aubrey Plaza lead the pack along with “Last Man on Earth’s” Kristen Schaal, Nick Thune, Charlyne Yi, Finesse Mitchell. Many more like the recently added heavy hitters Tig Notaro and Bill Burr will be spread out on three stages throughout the festival as they bring their A-game.
A sinful theme, dynamic musicians, stellar comedians and more will take over the Shrine Expo Hall and grounds for eight hours of talent that will leave attendees moving to tunes and laughing for every second of the show. Early birds were lucky enough to score tickets for $75, but those who missed this can still head out for $99. Those who want to go all out can be VIP for $250.
Festival Supreme is at the Shrine Expo Hall on Oct. 10. Tickets can be purchased here.
