Tyler Perry Brings ‘Madea on the Run’ to Dolby Theatre
Back in the day, a character named Ernest seemed to do everything. He went to camp, school and even saved Christmas. Fans lost this character when the actor behind him passed away in 2000. This was sad, but two years later, it seemed like pop culture needed someone to follow, a new character who could take on everything from family reunions to the big house. It was 2002 when Tyler Perry walked into the mainstream with Madea, a loud, old, unapologetic black woman. Over a decade later, she’s been everywhere from movies to TV and now she’s hitting the stage with a “Madea on the Run.”
Fans of Madea can expect the usual from their favorite old lady. She finds herself in trouble and volunteers to help her friend Bam, who is recovering from surgery. While Bam thinks this is a nice gesture based solely on good intentions, Madea really just needs a place to hide out from the law. While she’s there only to save herself, she ends up being a big help, as her friend’s family needs a makeover.
There’s no telling what led Madea to this point in her life, but it’s a sure thing is that this show will be pure fun. Fans that flock to the theatre to see the ups and downs of Madea will be more than pleased. Tyler Perry is a true talent and is surrounded by a delightful supporting cast that includes Cassi Davis, Tony Hightower, Maurice Lauchner, Rhonda Davis, David Stewart, Jr., Latoya London, Claudette Ortiz, Judith Franklin and Dorsey Levens.
Characters like Ernest and Madea entertain the masses because they not only bring to life this silly person, but also pack in a lot of humanity. When one went away to live on in memories and on DVD, Madea has stepped in to carry on the torch and continue to be a character with endless possibilities and adventures. So don’t miss out on Madea’s next one on the stage.
Tyler Perry‘s “Madea on the Run” comes to the Dolby Theatre Oct. 23-25. Tickets can be purchased here.
