‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Winner Bianca Del Rio Coming to Club Nokia

RuPaul already had her claim to fame as being the first drag queen to become a household name with her talk show back in the ‘90s. Then she created a phenomenon with her show on Logo looking for the next drag superstar, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” in 2009. The addictive reality competition has never failed in the entertainment department and has crowned some of the best drag had to offer, including the comedy queen Bianca Del Rio. Now the sixth season winner is stepping out of the club scene and into the big time with her “Rolodex of Hate” tour that’s wrapping up soon, but hitting Downtown L.A. before it does.

A performer and costume designer since high school, Del Rio started early and over the years moved from Louisiana to New Orleans in the late ‘90s. It was there the drag career started but after Hurricane Katrina she packed up and headed to New York. Bouncing around the country, Del Rio never lost her sense of humor and that played a huge factor when it came time to shine on “Drag Race.”

Past winners were everything from bonafide divas to scare queens like Sharon Needles. It wasn’t until the season right before Bianca’s that an oddball took the crown. Fans were more than happy to root for Del Rio when she stepped into season six. In a season that had not only a former “American Idol” contestant but one from “Australian Idol,” Del Rio had a lot of competition right off the bat. Again, the thing that continuously separated her from the pack was her ability to make everyone laugh with a comedy style like that of the late Joan Rivers. She says whatever comes to mind and doesn’t believe in apologizing for it.

Drag shows are always a good time filled with lip syncing and grand fashion, which Del Rio can do well but it’s definitely her funny bone that’s going to be the star of the show.

Bianca Del Rio brings the laughs to Club Nokia Oct. 24. Tickets can be purchased here.
