BØRNS Takes His Tour to El Rey

Riding high on the success of his current international tour, BØRNS successfully brought his eclectic rock/pop style back to his new home in Los Angeles for a quick stop and sold out show at the El Rey Theatre on Monday.

BØRNS is currently touring in support of his new album “Dopamine,” after it being last fall’s surprise hit with hisCandy” single that was written in the natural beauty of Los Angeles Canyons famous for inspiring rock legends Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell. According to his official website, “. . . enamored of and inspired by his new home on the west coast, BØRNS injected much of that sunshine vibe into the new music that would become his debut album ‘Dopamine’.”

That ‘sunshine’ definitely exuded from his music and was felt by the audience during the evening. The crowd in the standing-room-only El Rey Theatre went through a gamut of emotions manipulated by the heavy psych-pop of “10,000 Emerald Pools” to the feel good 80’s bounce of “Past Lives” into the highs of the glam-pop universe with the huge summer hit “Electric Love.” It was as if listeners were transported through different eras of music all within one seamless set with how impressive Garrett’s vocal range truly is.

The high point of the evening came when the encore began with a cover of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” that had just about every person in the sold-out theatre dancing and singing along as if Sir John were there himself. Already feeling the energy from “Electric Love,” Garrett along with his band rocked across the stage with one another, getting even those upstairs and in the back up and moving.

BØRNS played El Rey Theatre Nov. 23.
