Rockwell Delivers Again With ‘The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Home Alone’
During the holiday season TV viewers are sure to catch a few quintessential movies – “A Christmas Story,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Elf” – but let’s not forget about a another favorite, “Home Alone.” Millennials and others who appreciate this classic John Hughes film are going to want to check out this new spin on it as “The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Home Alone” is opening in L.A.
In the film version the precocious Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, and his family are set to head to Paris for Christmas but after sleeping through his alarm clock, and a previous wish for his family to disappear, Kevin’s forgotten at home while the rest of his family races to the airport as to not miss their flight. Kevin then has to battle burglars on his own and then learn a lesson about family and love, and holiday cheer lives on. The plot is something that today wouldn’t be possible thanks to cell phones, technological advances in airports, etc., but back then it was golden. Perhaps that’s why Rockwell is putting on “The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Home Alone.” They know what this movie means to this time of year, and want people who loved it growing up and those who have just discovered Kevin’s tale to be able to see it in a whole new light – a musical light.
This has become a sort of tradition with Rockwell as they produced “Cruel Intentions,” “Clueless,” “Scream” and now “Home Alone” on their stage. The shows are always a great time, and sometimes the stars of the originals come out to watch. “Cruel Intentions” stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair checked out the parody of their hit teen movie. While Culkin isn’t likely to head out to see how they retell his most famous role, it’ll still be a show worth seeing. Especially to see how and if they can recreate all the traps Kevin set for the sticky bandits.
“The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Home Alone” comes to Rockwell Table and Stage Dec. 3 – Jan. 3. Tickets can be purchased here.
