Laurence Fishburne Takes the Director’s Seat at LACMA’s Next Live Read

Remaking classic movies cause die-hard fans to squirm just a little. It takes a lot of convincing and until the day it opens and proves itself it can be a struggle to get audiences on board. But what LACMA has done with Film Independent is take well-loved movies and reinvent them on a smaller stage at the museum’s Bing Theater. Their Live Read series is some of the most entertaining times any museum can have as they bring a new crop of actors together to read scripts from well-known and popular films. Last month they took on “Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb” and coming up the movie is yes to be announced but the special director for the night is none other than Laurence Fishburne.

The Academy Award nominee has taken home honors across the board for movies, television and the stage. He’s a talented man who will forever be known for his roles in “Boyz n the Hood,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “The Matrix” and most currently on the ABC hit series “Black-ish.” He also knows his way around the Live Read stage having taken part in two for Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” as well as “Goodfellas.” Fishburne takes the reins from usual director Jason Reitman who is best known for directing cult classic “Juno” and George Clooney’s “Up in the Air.” One can guess that some of Fishburne’s co-stars will partake like Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, or even his real life wife actress Gina Torres who has her own following thanks to her role in “Firefly.”

Laurence Fishburne directs the next Film Independent at LACMA Feb. 18. Tickets for the Live Read series range from $25 for members to $50 for the general public. More information about how to be a member can be found here.
