Marlon Wayans, the man behind memorable parody films such as “Scary Movie” and “A Haunted House,” is getting sexy in his latest spoof film “Fifty Shades of Black.” Wayans takes on the phenomenon that is “Fifty Shades of Grey” in this latest film that he not only stars in but also co-produced and co-wrote.
Wayans plays Christian Black, a mysterious entrepreneur who attracts the attention of a curious college journalist named Hannah Steele (Kali Hawk). The two soon enter into a sexual relationship complete with BDSM and hilarity ensues.
In addition to “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the film also spoofs “Magic Mike” in a flashback scene that explains how Christian learned his dance moves. Kim Kardashian’s controversial Paper Magazine photos are also parodied.
Look out for appearances by Jane Seymour and Fred Willard and the always funny Mike Epps.
Wayans got his start acting alongside several of his siblings in the early 90s sketch comedy show “In Living Color.” From there, he went on to create and star in the sitcom “The Wayans Brothers” with his brother, Shawn. In 1996, he co-wrote and acted in his first parody film entitled “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.”
In a recent interview with The Source, Wayans asked how he chooses the films that he spoofs.
“It chooses me, honestly. When I’m watching something, some movies just inspire me to write jokes about a script because they’re either corny to me or I think of ways to make something that’s serious funny. For ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ I loved it and hated it at the same time and instantly thought of jokes during it. I had so many that I got the idea to make it into a comedy. The characters in it were funny to me, and I liked the sex aspect, so why not combine my favorite things: sex and comedy.”
“Fifty Shades of Black” opens nationwide Jan. 29.
