Jessicka Addams and Lindsey Way Headline Art Exhibit at La Luz De Jesus Gallery

A new show featuring the works of multiple edgy female artists is happening now at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Feliz. “Jessicka Addams & Lindsey Way with Special Guests Ave Rose, Deirdre Sullivan-Beeman, Lena Rushing, Peca, and Valarie Bermudez” will be on display through Feb. 28.

Los Angeles-based artist Jessicka Addams, a native of Florida, has a fascination with all things gothic, death, eccentric filmmaker John Waters and cats. All these influences are apparent in her latest body of work “Please Stop Loving Me,” which was also inspired by “End” by English new wave rockers The Cure.

Addams wears many hats. She is also a musician who founded Jack Off Jill, a 90’s rock band that was associated with the Riot Grrrl movement, and currently fronts the noise pop group Scarling. Addams also publishes the zine After Grrrl: Small Stories from Big Lives, which features a collection of stories from her friends and influences.

Lindsey Way, who hails from Scotland and currently calls California home, released her latest body of work titled “Shitty Teen” and was inspired by the handwritten notes passed by teens in school in the days before texting.

A press release from La Luz de Jesus Gallery states, “‘Shitty Teen’ is a selection of the notes, re-purposed and re-imagined as raw mixed media paintings- creating a visceral adaption of Lindsey’s teenage life.”

Like Addams, Way is also a musician. She serves as the bassist for the electronic rock band Mindless Self Indulgence. An artist first, Way didn’t actually know how to play the bass when she received the call to audition for MSI. She told a fib that got back to the band. However, her charismatic persona earned her the part.

Way is married to fellow rocker Gerard Way, the former frontman of My Chemical Romance. The couple has a six-year-old daughter named Bandit.

Called “the birthplace of pop surrealism, La Luz de Jesus Gallery is also associated with the Lowbrow Art Movement, an underground visual art movement that arose in the L.A. area in the late 70s. The gallery was established in 1986 by art collector Billy Shire.

Jessicka Addams & Lindsey Way with Special Guests Ave Rose, Deirdre Sullivan-Beeman, Lena Rushing, Peca, and Valarie Bermudez” open Feb. 5 at La Luz de Jesus Gallery and will be on display through Feb. 28.
