Sarah Jessica Parker Takes a Turn at Love in ‘All Roads Lead to Rome’
It feels like Sarah Jessica Parker has played this character before. In 2011, the 50-year-old actress portrayed a working mother in “I Don’t Know How She Does It,” but this time around in “All Roads Lead to Rome,” she’s single and while not looking to mingle – finds herself in the arms of a very handsome man played by the eye-catching Raoul Bova.
Parker plays Maggie, one of those workaholic single parents who get overwhelmed when their child acts out. In the role of her daughter is actress Rosie Day as Summer. When things hit the boiling point between the two, Maggie figures that some time away from New York City will do Summer, and their relationship some good. The two head off to a quaint Tuscan village Maggie traveled to years earlier. Of course, nothing stays in the past and a former love interest steps into the picture. Bova’s Luca presents a romantic twist to this otherwise comedy. The hilarity comes when Summer plans her escape alongside Luca’s mother who wants to get to Rome to marry her boyfriend. The rebellious teen and Luca’s mom skip town in his car, leaving him and Maggie on the run after them. Along the way, both pairs stumble upon self-realizations and discover new meanings of life and love.
Despite low numbers at the box office with roles like this for Parker, as most fans of hers are still in love with her most popular character of Carrie Bradshaw in the “Sex and the City,” she holds her own in comedies. Alongside Hugh Grant in 2009’s “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” she slayed so there’s no doubt she’ll bring some laughs out of audiences with this one.
This is writer Josh Appignanesi’s first feature film in a decade. As for his partner Cindy Myers, this is her first after a lengthy career penning made-for-TV movies.
“All Roads Lead to Rome” opens Feb. 5.
