Vance Joy, Elle King and Jamie Lawson Packed Shrine Expo Hall
Fans of Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy descended on the Shrine Expo Hall for a night filled with mellow, original music. But before Joy walked onto that stage his two talented opening acts got things going. British singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson has been making music for a decade now but it wasn’t until GRAMMY-winner Ed Sheeran signed him and dropped “Wasn’t Expecting That” that he became known in the United States.
Lawson came out to welcoming applause and did his thing as the crowd enjoyed songs like “Ahead of Myself.” Next, the most recent it girl, Elle King, took the stage. Splitting her time between her guitar and a lively banjo, the charismatic songstress was at the top of her game. King came onto the scene in a big way in 2015 and while she had a few fans singing along to her whole set, the crowd was fully behind her hit single, “Ex’s & Oh’s.”
Walking out with a smile that made many of the women in the audience swoon, Vance Joy took center stage with his name displayed behind him on a huge banner. Opening with 2014’s “Mess is Mine,” he followed that with his latest single, “Straight Into Your Arms.” With a guitar in his hand and looking very cool and casual in a button-down shirt, Joy lived up to his name, keeping the crowd happy as he ran through a strong set of his distinctive indie folk music before capping off the night with “Fire and the Flood” to enthusiastic applause.
