Skinheads and Rock n’ Roll Collide in ‘Green Room’
Being backstage at a concert is synonymous with sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. But all that is about to change thanks to Jeremy Saulnier’s “Green Room.” A band thinks a gig out in the middle of the woods is going to be just another night playing music but things quickly become sinister after a gang enters the picture.
Anton Yelchin stars as Pat, the lead in a band doing what bands do – play gigs. Little do they know that after they unplug, things will take a drastic turn. Instead of walking into the green room and being bombarded with groupies Pat sees a dead body lying on the ground. Subsequently, he and his band mates and friends are then on the wrong side of the door with a gang of psychopathic skinheads on the other. The group of friends then has to figure out how to get out with their lives, and their only plan of action is to take on these skinheads.
Fans may recognize Yelchin for his roles in “Charlie Bartlett” and the recent “Star Trek” movies. He’s joined by “Arrested Development’s” Alia Shawkat, Mark Webber and Imogen Poots. The surprising breakout in this film is another actor well-known for his “Star Trek” reign, none other than Patrick Stewart. Usually, he plays likable guys but not this time. He’s not only on the skinhead’s side, he’s their leader!
There’s a little crime thanks to the murder the band witnesses that takes them from musicians to potential victims themselves. However, the real story that unravels takes a realistic approach to horror and tosses in a whole case of thrills that will leave audiences jumping in their seats.
“Green Room” opened in select theaters April 15 and opens everywhere April 29.
