L.A.’s Own Lucent Dossier Experience to Perform in Hollywood

Lucent Dossier Experience, a Los Angeles performance troupe founded in 2004 by Dream Rockwell, specializes in cirque with a burlesque edge. Since ’04 the group has toured, taken on Vegas, and performed regularly at Burning Man, Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle and beyond. Combining acrobatics, original music and dance into an innovative performance style executed before a large, digital projection backdrop, with eight performers and four musicians, the troop brings to life the transformative and ancient-futuristic experience.

Lucent Dossier performs in a revue format, with many different sets taking the stage, including fire and percussion numbers. The huge screens project an overwhelming amount of light and color to take over the space and the senses. Well suited to festival and club atmospheres, the troupe’s costumes are gorgeous, avant grade creations and their shows, mesmerizing, combining the sensual allure of burlesque with both ancient tribal and futuristic themes. The troupe also incorporates an emphasis on spirituality and the transportive sensation of reaching another realm, a different world. They focus on living in the moment and the sensory experiences and aim to fully engage their audience, inviting attendees to immerse themselves and get a little wild. There are erotic overtones to many of the acts, such as the scantily clad aerial swing duo set to violin music.

In the creative process, music comes first, with a conversation that builds between the performers and musicians to create an organic story. They have the discipline and synchronicity necessary to put together enormously difficult and technical presentations, but there is an undeniable sense of freedom and immediacy in the performance. The combination of music, movement, light, and color is almost hypnotic.

Before the performance, there will be sets by DJ Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, the pioneering UK electronic duo Psychemagik and Tara Brooks.

Lucent Dossier Experience performs for one night on Aug. 13 at the Avalon. Tickets can be found here.
