Twilight Concert Series Provides Free Music at Santa Monica Pier All Summer
Every summer L.A. offers up a ton of things to get people out of their houses and under the stars. From Cinespia’s movie events to food festivals throughout the city to the free music every Thursday night courtesy of the Twilight Concert Series at the Santa Monica Pier. In the past, they’ve had acts like “Wake Me Up!” singer Aloe Blacc and the music video masters OK Go. This year they have another cascade of talent on lock to bring everyone who comes out a great night out at the beach.
The Twilight Concerts kicked things off in July and have done a great job all month long. They’re looking to outdo themselves come August and throughout the rest of the series run this year. The first Thursday of August will take attendees down under, as it’s the “Australia Rocks” night. Concertgoers are welcomed to dance the night away to the likes of Ben Browning as well as DMA’s. The following week dancehall DJ and singer Sister Nancy is on deck with Jesse Royal. The month ends with a whopper though. The one and only Jefferson Starship will take the stage.
Music royalty, Jefferson Airplane came to be in the late ‘60s and since then have released eight albums. In that time, they’ve also given the world classic hits such as “Somebody to Love,” “White Rabbit” and “Summer of Love.” With any luck they’ll be performing all of those and more when they headline August 27 alongside California’s Purple Mountains Majesties. That should be a fun night for every generation in the crowd.
The Series ends in September with Rebirth Brass Band coming straight from New Orleans, and Miles Mosley & The West Coast Get Down. The final date of the Twilight Concerts is September 10, but it’s still to be determined who will be capping things off this year. If past events are any indication, it is sure to go out with a bang.
The Twilight Concert Series at the Santa Monica Pier takes place every Thursday until Sept. 10. Find out more information here.
