Veteran singer-songwriter Aimee Mann and her equally talented friends will take the Largo stage for a her Annual Christmas show. Mann will be joined by Ted Leo, her creative partner in their band The Both. The show also promises to feature many special guests, alongside Liz Phair and Jonathan Coulton.
The musicians will play their standard hits as well as Christmas music in the holiday themed concert. Mann will draw her seasonal setlist from her 2006 Christmas album “One More Drifter in the Snow,” that included her unique takes on Holiday standards like “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Winter Wonderland,” as well as two original Christmas songs.
Mann is best known for her solo career, which launched in 1993. Her biggest hit was the song “Save Me,” a single from the soundtrack of the film “Magnolia.” Mann’s latest solo album, 2012’s “Charmer,” shows she had no plans of slowing down. The album hit the Billboard Charts and received critical acclaim.
Ted Leo is a talented multi-instrumentalist who played in punk bands like Citizen’s Arrest and Chisel. Leo and Mann first collaborated under the name The Both in 2013, and released their self-titled album the next year. They continue to tour as a group, backed by drummer Matt Mayhall.
Guest performers Liz Phair and Jonathan Coulton are both popular singer-songwriters with rabid fan bases. Phair, a two-time Grammy nominee, is best known for her single “Supernova” and “Why Can’t I?” Coulton is best known for viral hits like “Code Monkey” and “Still Alive,” from the video game “Portal 2,” and his acoustic version of “Baby Got Back.”
Mann’s Christmas Show has featured surprise guests in the past. Previous shows included guests like Paul F. Tompkins, who acted as both an MC and as an opening act. After stopping in Los Angeles, the Christmas Show will travel the country, making stops in San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.
Aimee Mann heads to the Largo on Dec. 2 and 3. Both shows start at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available from Largo and Mann’s website.
